Lorna Nakell
Originally born in Grenada, WI, I have been a professional, exhibiting artist for over twelve years. I received my BFA from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, WA in 1994. Most recently I was awarded a RACC Project grant and an artist residency at Weir Farm Art Center in Wilton, CT. Currently I am represented by Beppu Wiarda Gallery, Portland, OR.
For the past three years I have been creating non-representational paintings using mixed media. Although my current body of work is primarily abstract, I have now begun a new series which introduces figurative imagery allowing for a more concrete narrative.
Subject matter and titles for my paintings often come from poems and literature. Though I am not an expert on either, I often find poignant content that works to reflect my personal experiences. Other inspiration includes nature, music, myths and childhood.
