Esther Liberman
Esther Liberman is a Portland beadwork artist, specializing in Judaic ritual objects and beaded jewelry. She is known for her Kippot made entirely of glass beads, her detailed Mezuzot and Yahrzeit candle covers created with thousands of tiny beads, and her unique Mah Jongg jewelry and Hamsa pendants.
She holds a degree in Ethnic Arts from UCLA, and loves to explore the possibilities presented by mixing traditional forms with modern materials and aesthetics. Tribal African beads shine in modern jewelry, while ancient Hebrew texts are revisited with computer-produced beads.
Liberman's intricate beadwork has been featured in museum exhibits and professional art sales. She has taught beadwork classes throughout the Western United States. Her work as a beader and designer has been published, and copies of her patterns are sold commercially. She is an active member of the international beadwork community online. She also donates her work generously to many fund-raising events.
Esther is a co-founder of ORA: Northwest Jewish Artists, an artists' collective in Portland - she created and maintains the website . Ms. Liberman lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband, their two sons, and their dog.
