Gary Pearlman

Gary Pearlman is an interior designer and graphic artist. Born in Portland, Oregon, Gary is a graduate of the University of Oregon and New York University, where he received a Masters in Retailing. His art career began in 1980 as a graphic calligrapher and he has exhibited numerous times in Los Angeles, Chicago and Portland. His highly detailed calligraphic works are in private collections throughout the United States.

More recently, Gary has ventured into the world of contemporary art, creating large scale oil paintings on canvas as well as wood panels, which allow him to use paint to achieve a variety of interesting textural patterns. Some of his works have integrated hand-made papers and other media to create added texture and interest.

Unlike the calligraphic designs, these new paintings offer a greater opportunity to freely express movement and emotion and at the same time create artistic abstract pieces that are right for today’s lifestyles. His knowledge of interior design and color psychology are reflected in his works.

Gary and his wife, Sylvia, reside in Portland where he has his studio.
