Paige Stoyer

Paige Stoyer

Paige Stoyer is a photographer who has always been drawn to exploring the world around her and enjoys capturing and examining those things she wants to understand better. Human relationships, emotions and struggles take center stage in Paige’s portraits and documentary work. Her background in painting is evident in her fine art work in which she explores the simple and powerful impact of light, color, and shapes in our environment, and how those elements evoke our memories and feelings.

“Photographs are tied strongly to our emotions…we react very instinctually to them and I find that powerful and interesting to play with.”

“I create images that I hope will evoke feelings and a mood for the viewer, whatever that may be for each person. It is my attempt to try and understand some small element of our complicated humanity, including my own.”

Her current documentary project, “The Long Journey”, depicting women from around the world who are survivors of domestic violence, will be shown at the New School in New York City, in March 2009.

Paige graduated from the International Center for Photography (ICP) and attended classes at the School for the Visual Arts (SVA), both in New York City. Before returning to her visual arts roots with photography, she worked as a writer and journalist for 15 years, and currently lives and works in Portland, Oregon.
