We have BIG news to share with you! (drumroll, please…)

We are thrilled to announce that Community Warehouse has been selected to receive a Recycling Education and Outreach (REO) grant of nearly $1.6 million from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) This REO grant is the largest contribution Community Warehouse has received in our 22-year history!

Our mission and proven services position us an integral member of the reuse community. Annually, our furniture bank diverts 500+ tons of donated furnishings from the waste stream, such as mattresses, tables, chairs, dressers, and kitchenware, which are redistributed to 6,600+ individuals in need of these items.
Demand for our services has increased dramatically since 2020, and shows no signs of slowing down. We’ve increased services to individuals and families by 35% in 2023.
Government agencies are now recognizing Community Warehouse as a vital resource to the region. In 2023, Community Warehouse began receiving Supportive Housing Services funding from Washington County to subsidize the costs we incur for each appointment and allow us to offer no-cost furniture bank appointments and deliveries to clients referred from county-contracted agencies
As demand for our services grows, so too does our need for furniture donations. In order to educate the community about Community Warehouse’s donation services, we need to increase our marketing and communications presence throughout the region in a big way. Thankfully, this grant from the EPA will allow us to do just that!
Over a three-year period, this grant from the EPA will help fund:

  • Marketing consultant services
  • Media campaigns
  • Print, digital, and social media advertising
  • Signage (including a billboard!)
  • Website redesign
  • Printing and mailing services
  • Salaries for staff involved in community outreach and education
  • Staff Apparel
  • Technology

Thank you for celebrating this exciting news with us! We look forward to bringing more people into our mission and doing our part to promote meaningful reuse in the Portland metro area.

Because this funding is restricted to education, marketing, and outreach, we cannot use it to support client services and operations. We hope you will help us leverage this opportunity by contributing to our fundraising efforts.

As always, thank you for helping spread the word and support our mission. We can’t do this without you!
