Community Warehouse Rolls Out New Initiatives For Accessibility
We reflect on the past year with an abundance of gratitude for the countless ways our community showed up to help us create cozy homes for our neighbors overcoming adversity. As we step into 2024, we are excited to roll out some new initiatives with a focus on increasing accessibility of our services and sustainability for our employees.
1. Community Warehouse is piloting a four-day workweek for the next six months.
If you’ve ever visited the Warehouse, you’ve likely witnessed how hard our staff work! We really value our team, and we want work at Community Warehouse to be just as balanced as it is fulfilling. This is why, beginning January, we are piloting a four-day (34 hour) workweek. Our hope is that with this added opportunity to recharge, take care of personal needs, and spend time with loved ones, we will be able to serve our community even better.
So what does this mean for you? Well, by adjusting schedules to accommodate the four-day workweek, we’re making some changes to hours and operations that we believe will actually increase accessibility throughout every department. How, you ask? Keep reading!
Donation Pickups
The wait is over–Saturday pickups are now available! Donation pickups are now offered Tuesday-Saturday (previously Monday-Friday). Limited zip code availability may apply for Saturday pickup services. Schedule a pickup today!
Donation Drop-Off
Donation drop-off hours for Portland and Tualatin furniture banks are Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm (previously 10am-4pm). By closing on Mondays, we were able to extend the hours we accept donations throughout the rest of the week. (Community Warehouse+ in Gresham remains open Thur-Sat 11am-6pm.) Do you have gently-used furniture and household items to donate? Find your nearest drop-off location and pay us a visit!
Estate Store
The Portland Estate Store will now be open Wednesday through Saturday 11am-5pm* (previously 11am-4pm). Thrifting for good just got easier!
The Tualatin Estate Store remains temporarily closed for the foreseeable future as we recover from the store’s recent flood and plan next steps (yes, we are so sorry to report that it flooded again! The furniture bank remains open for appointments and donation drop-offs.). We are continuing to search for a temporary or permanent space in Washington County where we can relocate. If you have any leads, we’d love to hear from you!
*Note: The Portland Estate Store is closed for the first two weeks of January (Jan. 1-13) for cleaning and restoration, and reopens Wed, Jan 17.
Furniture Bank
Furniture bank appointments are now offered Tuesday-Saturday (previously Monday-Friday) in Portland and Tualatin, creating more access for clients who work during the week. Learn more or schedule an appointment here.
The cost of virtual appointments (with delivery) have been reduced to the same price as in-person appointments with delivery, increasing accessibility for clients with mobility or transportation challenges.
Whether you drop in for a furniture bank appointment, to donate furniture, or to shop at our stores, we look forward to seeing you soon!
2. For the month of January, all standard donation pickups are free.
Yes, you read that right: FREE!
We know there is enough furniture in our community for everyone who needs it, but we recognize that dropping off donations or paying for a pickup can be prohibitive for some. We hope this exciting limited-time offer allows anyone who wants to donate to Community Warehouse the opportunity to do so.
After January, donation pickups will be pay-what-you-can starting at $50.
P.S. Did you know that it costs an average of $130 per hour to cover the cost of our pickup drivers and operations of our trucks? If you’re able to make an additional contribution, we encourage it!
