A Checklist For Home
by Rena Satre Meloy, Communications
It was a beautiful Tuesday morning at the Tualatin Warehouse. Trucks were driving in and out; staff, donors, and clients moved beds and dressers; volunteers packed boxes of kitchen items – the friendly bustle of furniture bank activity.
At 10am on the dot, Leslie and her young son A.J. walked through our doors.
They had been there only minutes when A.J. found a small stationary box with sticky notes and began to write out a checklist for their daily agenda. For the next hour, they walked through the Warehouse picking out their sofa, dining table, chairs, beds and bedding, and kitchen items. A.J. didn’t miss a beat with his checklist and was a wonderful Warehouse ‘assistant’ to us all.
We will never forget A.J. and his little sticky note, and the significance of this day for him and his mom.
