Donation Sorting

Duties

Donation Sorting Volunteer 

The Donation Sorting Volunteer is responsible for sorting donations and maintaining organization of inventory.

After working 4 – 6 independent Sorting shifts, volunteers have the option to undergo further training to assist clients (if both parties agree it would be a good fit.)

Skills and duties include:

  • Unpack and process incoming donations according to organizational protocols and policies

  • Maintain safe, clean, and neat work area

  • Organize and categorize inventory on shelves of warehouses.

  • Must be able to withstand long periods of standing in potentially hot/cold warehouses

  • Maintain knowledge of organizational policies and accepted items list

  • Adhere to safety and health policies, practices, and procedures

  • Must be willing to participate in organizational trainings (policy and procedure updates, DEI, Trauma Informed Care, other trainings to support the organization’s values.)

Shifts available:

Regular volunteers must be able to commit to working a minimum of 2 shifts per month ongoing

  • Tuesday – Friday, 9am – 12pm, 12pm – 3pm, 3pm – 5pm

  • Saturdays 10am – 12pm, 1pm – 4pm

Qualifications

  • Must be comfortable with standing for long periods of time.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Willingness to screen, sort, process and fold lots of linens – this is often our most urgent need and ensures that clients have blankets, sheets, and towels. 

  • Volunteers onboarded as of February 2024 must pass a background check

  • Physical requirements: standing up to 3 hours on concrete floor, lifting and carrying, pushing or pulling, reaching overhead, using step ladders
