Oregon Natural Fiber Mill Partners with Community Warehouse to Provide Sustainable Beds for Families Overcoming Adversity

At Community Warehouse, we know that a home isn’t just four walls—it’s a place to rest, recharge, and feel secure. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce a new partnership with Oregon Natural Fiber Mill, a collaboration that means more families will have the comfort of a good night’s sleep.

Through this partnership, Oregon Natural Fiber Mill will craft high-quality beds at their SW Portland facility using US-sourced wool and organic cotton. These sustainably made mattresses will then be distributed through Community Warehouse’s furniture bank, directly reaching neighbors transitioning out of housing instability.

“Everyone deserves the comfort and dignity of a good night’s sleep.”

“For many of the families we serve, a mattress is one of the most important items we provide—it means no longer sleeping on the floor after weeks or even months without a bed,” says Anna Kurnizki, Executive Director at Community Warehouse. “Everyone deserves the comfort and dignity of a good night’s sleep, and this partnership helps ensure more neighbors can rest well and wake up ready to thrive.”

Oregon Natural Fiber Mill, revitalized in 2024 by Britt Howard of Portland Garment Factory, brings a strong commitment to sustainability, using turn-of-the-19th-century garnet machines to create luxurious, eco-friendly stuffing for springless mattresses, cushions, comforters, and more. “At Oregon Natural Fiber Mill, we believe that everyone should have a safe and cozy place to sleep,” says Howard. “Partnering with Community Warehouse allows us to make a direct impact on our community by supplying all-natural sleep products made right here in Portland.”

This collaboration reflects what’s possible when local businesses and nonprofits work together—blending sustainability with social impact to create a healthier, more comfortable future for everyone.
